How do the looks work?

Lightdab paints each camera frame on your iPhone as it arrives, so the viewfinder already shows the finished painting. Pick a look under the viewfinder: Ink & Color, Watercolor, Sumi ink, or Pencil sketch. Each look has presets, and a Strength slider blends the painting with the photo. With Pro, the sliders button next to Strength opens fine-tuning for the look you're using (without Pro it shows a lock).

Press and hold the picture to see the unpainted view. Paintings aren't generated by AI: every stroke comes from what the camera sees.

What's free, and what does Pro add?

Free: the Ink & Color look with all its presets and the Strength slider, photos, and videos up to 15 seconds. Free photos and videos carry a small Lightdab watermark.

Lightdab Pro is $4.99, one time, not a subscription. It unlocks every look, including looks added in future updates, the fine-tuning sliders on every look, videos as long as you like, and removes the watermark. Tap any lock in the app to see it.

How do I restore Pro on a new iPhone?

Tap Pro at the top right of the camera (or any lock, like the Watercolor look) to open the Pro sheet, then tap Restore Purchases at the bottom. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. The same sheet has the Support, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use links.

It says "Waiting for approval"

The purchase needs approval first, usually from a parent through Ask to Buy. Pro unlocks in Lightdab on its own once it's approved; you don't need to buy again.

Where do my photos and videos go?

Tap the shutter for a photo; press and hold it to record a video. Captures are saved to your Photos library, at full resolution and painted the way they looked on screen. Lightdab asks for Add Photos Only access, so it can save but never read your library.

If Photos access is off, your latest capture stays in the app and you can still share it. To turn it on, open Settings, find Lightdab, and tap Photos.

Can I paint a photo or video I already took?

Yes. Tap the Photos button beside the shutter and pick a photo or video. It replaces the camera in the viewfinder, painted in the current look, until you close it with the close button. Tap the shutter to save it. A photo paints at full size and keeps its date and place. A video paints frame by frame with its sound, and the same free and Pro rules apply: 15 seconds and a watermark on the free version. The picker is Apple's, so Lightdab sees only what you choose.

The camera or microphone isn't working

Open Settings, find Lightdab, and turn on Camera and Microphone. If the camera is off, Lightdab shows an Open Settings button that goes straight there. Without the microphone, videos record silently.

It says my phone is out of space

Lightdab needs free space to save a painting, so it stops instead of failing halfway. If a recording or a painted video stops because space ran low, the part made so far is saved. Free up space in Settings, General, iPhone Storage, then try again.

It says "Lightdab can't paint on this phone"

The painting engine couldn't start on this iPhone. Restart the iPhone and open Lightdab again. If it still shows, email support@lightdab.app with your iPhone model and iOS version (in Settings, General, About).

How do I get a refund?

Apple processes purchases, so refunds go through Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple Account you bought with, and choose Lightdab.

Which iPhones does it run on?

Any iPhone with iOS 17 or later. On older iPhones the painting gets a little softer so the preview stays smooth.

Did Lightdab have another name?

Yes. Lightdab was previously called Wet Paint during testing.
